Stair Lift:
What is a stair lift and how does it work?
A stair lift is a motorized chair that travels up and down a track
secured to your staircase. When not in use, the stair lift folds
compactly against the wall. Stair lifts include a seat that swivels
away from the staircase at the top landing, providing a safe and easy
way to get on and off the lift.
What safety features does a stair lift offer?
The safety system includes sensors that stop the stair lift an object
is detected in the lifts path, a seatbelt for added security, and
brakes that will stop the stair lift should something go wrong with the
drive system. The swivel seat ensures an easy, safe transition from
sitting to standing positions at the top landing. The seat locks in
place when it's swiveled away from the staircase and when it's returned
to the operating position, to ensure the seat does not swivel during
the ride. Constant pressure controls make sure the stair lift will
stop if you remove your fingers during the ride.
How difficult is it to get on and off the stair lift?
Not difficult at all. Stair lifts have a unique seat design that swivel to allow you to get on the lift safely at the top of the stairs. This allows you to get on and off the lift at the top landing with ease.
How are stair lifts powered?
Stair lifts are either powered by two DC batteries, or by AC power.
Lifts that are powered by DC batteries still must be plugged directly
into an electrical outlet to charge the batteries. The advantage of
using DC batteries is that in the event of a power outage, the stair
lift will continue to operate. Lifts that are powered by AC power use
power directly from an electrical outlet.
How much space does a stair lift use?
Stair lifts dimensions vary by lift. A stair lift typically takes up
about 14" when folded. When in use, it typically opens to about 25"
without stair rail. If the stair rail remains, the unit will take up
about 17" when folded and about 28" when in use.
What if the stair lift was left upstairs and I'm downstairs?
This often occurs when two or more members within a household use the
lift. The lift comes with two remote controls, so each member may have
their own remote control. Many lift users leave one remote upstairs
and one downstairs. By pressing the easy-to-use remote, the lift will
arrive at the landing in which you are located.
What happens if something is in the way of the stair lift?
The stair lift has safety sensors which will automatically stop the
lift if an object is detected. The user will be able to operate the
lift once the object is removed.
Is the stair lift noisy?
The motor is quiet enough for you to use it day or night without disturbing others.
Does the stair lift come with a warranty?
Warranties can vary by manufacturer. All of the stair lifts we install have at least a two year warranty on parts and five years on the drive train. Please contact our sales staff for more information on the specific lift you are interested in.
